Services
1. Dry Containers.
- We can collect from your premises, using a variety of vehicles including, flat bads, curtain-side trailers and hiabs.
- Where there is more than one container load, make a container stow plan in order to ensure best fit, thus minimising the number of containers used, which in turn, reflects in a reduction to the over all cost.
- Collect the empty containers, load the goods, take photos prior to sealing the container(s) and deliver to the berth. This is done at one of our approved suppliers, who generally have premises adjacent to the port, which assists to reduce costs and delays, due to traffic but increases flexibility.
2. Open Top or Flat Rack Containers.
-
Where necessary, we can send cargo handlers to your premises to lift goods on to machinery skates and move from the location in the factory, to a suitable place outside, for loading. We will supply a crane and full compliment of personnel, to accomplish a full contact lift to transport.
- Looking at the transport part of the movement, we are again able to collect from your premises as above but when goods are particularly wide or high, we can utilise low loader or step frame vehicles, in order to comply with British road laws. We will also take care of police permits and supply an escort, should it be required.
- The loading will take place at our nominated facility, adjacent to the port, where we have access to equipment which can lift in excess of 40 tons. Our loaders will lash, secure, block and brace your goods and notify the carrier's surveyor, who will perfom an inspection. Once this has been done, we will affix a tarpaulin if required and deliver the container to the berth for loading to ship.
3. Roll On Roll Off (RORO)
- The options for getting the cargo to the port are A) you deliver it or B) we collect it. Looking at option B) we can either send a fully insured driver to drive on trade plates, tow it or secure it to a low loader or car transporter.
- At the port, the carrier will take care of the loading and securing to the deck of the ship. The carrier will also discharge to quay at destination Please note that cargo is always shipped on a covered deck unless we advise to the contrary. Should this be necessary, we will notify you prior to taking receipt of goods.
4. Breakbulk.
- Handling and UK transport as in point 2.
- When cargo is to be shipped as a break-bulk move, the carrier will often instruct us to "deliver under hook" within a very definite time window. Please bear in mind that the weather and delays at earlier ports of call may cause this to change, with very little notice.
- The carrier will attend to the loading, securing and discharge.
5. Yachts and Motor Boats
- There are two methods of getting the boat to the ocean vessel: road or water. Each presents it's own issues which IDHC can take care of.
- For road moves, we will supply a boat trailer and a crane to lift your craft on to it, should the marina not have one.
- Where the craft is too large or high to be moved on the UK roads, it will be necessary to sail it to the ocean carrier's berth for loading. A water to ship lift will then be made. We will coordinate with all parties in order to ensure that the operation runs smoothly.
The definition of a project varies, depending on who you speak to but for our purposes, we will use any of the following criteria:
- A full container load which cannot be loaded by you or your supplier, regardless of whether the freight is to be loaded into a box container, open top or flat rack.
- Anything on Wheels, apart from cars, which have been dealt with, elsewhere.
- Anything particularly large or heavy which requires specialised road transport
- Break-bulk shipments (cargo loaded directly into the ship's hold, on deck or similar.
- Machinery moving, which requires any of the above, a crane lift and or electro-mechanical disconnection.
- Yachts and motor boats
A description of our range services is given below but as you will appreciate, it is essential to work closely with each client, in order to understand the constraints of each project, if we are to create the most effective solution possible.
